4 Different Types of Yoga

Updated: Oct 28, 2021

These are just a few different types of yoga. Some of which you may have never heard of and some you probably have heard of if you're familiar with yoga.

Yin Yoga

Yin yoga has a lot to do with having stillness in poses. Instead of holding a pose for a few seconds or breaths you hold a pose for a couple minutes or longer. This is a more passive form of yoga and is focused on flexibility.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha yoga tends to be associated with a focus on breathing in the practice. Often this practice is not the fastest or slowest form of yoga, much more of an intermediate speed. You don't have to be an experienced yogi and it can be enjoyable for more experienced yogis as well. Often times there will be a section in which you breath with every movement you make.

Heavy Metal Yoga

I was introduced to heavy metal yoga by my high school yoga teacher. Most types of yoga are meant to be peaceful and calming, but heavy metal yoga helps people to destress in a different way. It allows you to release anger, pent up energy, and is a safe place to cope with life. Throughout these sessions, most people wear dark clothes, growl, yell, do air guitars, run in place, swear, and much more. All of while listening to heavy metal music.

Goat Yoga and Cat Yoga

With goat yoga it mostly consists of doing yoga outside with goats wandering around. Then with cat yoga there is much more flexibility, if you will. You can do yoga with your cat around at home or go to a place specifically for a session of cat yoga. Cats are more likely to climb onto your mat or onto you, than goats are.

And there are so many more!

What's your favorite type of yoga to practice? Are there any you want to try?
