When I started doing yoga, I was in a high school class doing yoga every other day, often after school as well. It was a sort of love, but as time went on and situations changed I lost the habit of my practice. Now, I’m trying to get back into yoga.
People will commonly say it takes 21 days to build a habit, but that is not inherently accurate. According to research by University of London College, it tends to take somewhere around 66 days. No matter what, people are all different which means that whether it takes a month, many months, or just a few weeks, there is no set amount of time it takes to build a habit. The way I’m trying to build up my habit of practicing yoga, is by going to the gym regularly, keeping my yoga mat in my gym locker, and trying new things.
I had never been an avid gym goer, until this fall. For the most part I haven’t been doing much yoga there, but I was finally able to get a locker in which I can store my yoga mat. This makes it incredibly easier to work on my yoga. This is a big thing in helping me to exercise more regularly. The less steps I have the more likely I am to actually keep it up.
I’d like to use this blog as a sort of way to encourage me to learn, grow, and try new things in yoga. Also, it can be a way to keep me more accountable. Everything should work together to help me do what I enjoy; yoga.
