Finding Yoga

A Mostly true tale of Yoga and other Things

Yoga Class

The first and last days of school are always the best; everyone is excited and you don't have to do anything super stressful. It being my last year of high school, it was especially nice knowing that I would never have to come back. One more year and I can finally move out, leave the little bubble I've lived in for years.

My first class of the day is yoga. I didn't really want to take this class, but it sounded better than any of the other PE classes. It isn't too eventful, we get lockers and get disclosure statements.

Over the next few weeks we start to learn simple yoga poses and little about sun salutations. The environment is so peaceful in class. Dim lights, an open room, and good friends. I start to really enjoy myself. Yoga isn't insanely hard for me, but it still pushes me to become better. The teacher is absolutely amazing. She's the sweetest person ever.

As the year went on, I started to fall in love with yoga. I did yoga after school and I became fascinated in the history of it. We learned about Sanskrit, the eight limbs of yoga, chakras, hard poses, easy poses, and how to teach a class ourselves. Our teacher introduced us to heavy mental yoga and to YouTubers that we could watch for our own practices.

Yoga gave me peace and a sense of growth. I even asked for a yoga mat for Christmas! Perhaps an odd gift, but who cares! I finally had my own yoga mat! Once the first semester was over, I signed up to take yoga once again from the same teacher.

At this point in time I was doing yoga everyday after school. The second semester was really good, but sadly I didn't have as many friends in that class. A lot of the class was pretty similar to the previous semester, but I enjoyed it completely.

The Chakras Explained from Avatar

In college I kept doing yoga, sometimes on a daily basis sometimes not. I even bought a bracelet with the colors of the chakras on it. I still wear it on a regular basis. Chakras and mudras really fascinate me and I love how they are the same colors as the ones in the rainbow.

Now I am taking a yoga class in college! Sadly, it is online, but it's still a lot of fun to have guided sessions again. It has been interesting learning about yoga from someone other than my high school teacher. Both teachers are really amazing, but it's cool to compare and contrast their teaching styles.

This school year I started this blog all about yoga and anything that relates to it. Someday I would like to become a certified yoga instructor and teach classes myself. Maybe I could help others to fall in love with yoga as well. Hopefully I'll be able to share all about my journey.
