How To Start your Yoga Practice For Free



Researching how one might start doing yoga it may seem extremely intimidating, but have no fear, it's super easy! All you need to do is look at the stuff around you.


Clothes



All you need is something comfortable that you can move and stretch in. If that's fancy leggings and a tank top or a stretchy pair of pants and a t-shirt, it all works. You may want to tuck in a shirt if it's rather loose, so it won't fall down during yoga. If you have long hair you'll probably want to pull it back so it doesn't bug you or get in the way of your practice. Even then, it's all up to what makes you feel most comfortable.


Supplies



Getting started on yoga it may feel overwhelming over what supplies you need; here is my piece of advice: don't buy anything. Not a mat, not a strap, not a yoga block, not a single thing. Take a beach towel, regular towel, a blanket, or even a patch of grass and use that for your practice. There is no need to rush into buying products starting out. Instead of buying a strap, use a belt, scarf, or long piece of fabric. If you feel a need for a yoga block use a book or two that you are okay with smashing a bit. Get to know yoga before you buy anything. You may find that there are some products you don't need.


Starting Yoga



When you feel ready to start your practice, I have two recommendations. You can look up easy yoga poses and stretches or yoga for beginners on YouTube. It may take a little experimentation with what works best for you.




Starting yoga is a very personal journey. Making simple, small, and free steps can be one of the easier ways to finding out what you like. Perhaps, you'll find yin yoga to be your favorite, simple back stretches, or maybe you'll find that balance poses are your favorite. Whatever it may be, go out and try something new.
